Netflix strikes deal for streaming rights to Sony films
Spider-Man (Tom Holland) meets with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) in Sony’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home”.
Beginning next year, all films released by Sony Pictures will be streamed exclusively on Netflix after their theatrical releases and home entertainment releases.
The deal, announced on Thursday, includes films like “Morbius”, “Uncharted” and “Bullet Train”.
Netflix can also place films such as “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and future Venom and other Spider-Man films on its platform. Franchises like Jumanji and Bad Boys are also included in the deal. Netflix also has access to other titles from Sony’s film library.
As part of this partnership, Sony Netflix is offering a first look at all the films to be transferred directly for streaming or decides to license the streaming later. Netflix has pledged to make a number of these films over the course of the contract.
The length of the deal and its financial details were not disclosed by the two companies.
